I feel life in this room

The feeling is so different today.  There is a positive energy filling the room.  We are laughing and conversing.  Telling Owen funny stories.

Our day started on a better note.  Not his cat scan was horrible and here is a comfort cart.  On rounds this morning they said yesterday was a good day.  After everything he’s been through he is doing as they could expect.

His lungs are slightly improved.  His EEG shows some activity.  That doesn’t mean that he’ll be ok but it means that’s it not flat.  His kidneys are pumping out clear pee.  Another good thing.  He’s not in the clear.  But today I fell like maybe, just maybe he could be apart of the 2%.

While saying a prayer over his bed this morning I heard him.  I heard him say that he was here and coming back.  My Owen. I can feel him.  I have found him.  He is not hurting.  He is not alone.  He is around us.

I was remembering how relaxed Owen is.  My chill baby.  He’s just waiting, not making a fuss.  If anyone could relax enough to let his body heal on his own, he can do it.  All we do now is wait.

Doug and I went home to shower and to see jaden.  One of the first things that he asked me was if he could come see Owen in the hospital.  I told him of he wanted to, he could.  I told him that Owen looked a lot like when he was born…lots of tubes and beeping monitors.  He said that it wasn’t scary and he missed his brother.

Jaden did great.  He kissed his chunky thighs.  He hugged him and touched his forehead.  He danced around and even made two dolls.  Universe jaden and universe Owen.  Owen’s doll has two brains, the tape around his mouth and dots all over (which is his medicine that works very slow but very good).

I just can’t get over how positive today feels.  I hope it’s not the calm before the storm but rather a calm from the prayers.

I want you all to know that I read every note on Facebook, text message or blog comment.  I say your words as my prayers.  Thank you for all of the support.  I am blown away.

Tomorrow at 4:30am we start the warming process.  We warm him slowly over 20 hours.  I’m not sure when we start the tests to measure his brain activity … It’s one of my questions for rounds tonight.  But we need to pray harder.

I have so much more to share.  I’m sure I’ll be writing again tonight when I can’t sleep.  Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Love, Mel

    Mel and family,
You don’t know me either, but your blog hit my Facebook wall through a prayer from a girl I went to school with. I sat and read your entire blog from start to finish this afternoon, and I felt like I knew all of you, and my heart goes out to your Owen, and the rest of your family and friends. I am a huge believer in prayer, and I have benen praying for your family since I saw the post on Facebook. We can all be prayer warriors for Owen. I pray for peace, for comfort, for a pain free night for your child, and healing as you move from this day towards the next. May His comfort grant you all peace this night.

Melissa – I truly believe in the power of prayer! It will lift you up, comfort you in your time of need and give you strength when you feel you have no more energy to give. My children are not sleeping in their nursery yet but the light is on for Owen. I pray your night is as positive as your day.

    Hi Mel,

I work with Rachael and heard the news today. I immediately found your blog and read it from beginning to end. What a wonderful mother you are. Owen is such a special boy to have you and your family in his life. There’s not an hour that went by today that I didn’t think about Owen and sent him a little prayer.
He is surrounded by love..from his family, friends, and complete strangers. I will keep watching for updates on his progress and will continue to pray for him.

  16. Mel, I am a friend of a friend who asked me to pray for you. I too am a mother to triplets- 16 months old- GBB triplets. I just sobbed reading your blog today. We have always called my little chunky man Jake our “chunky monkey”. A huge sob appeared in my throat when I saw that in your post. I am praying and asking everyone I know to pray for your sweet Owen. My best girlfriend Dawn has a 3 year old boy who “coded” on the table during his throat surgery when he was 2 years old. He had no pulse and no breath for more than 20 minutes I believe. They too were unsure of what would happen. When he first came out of it, he was very impaired. But with lots of intensive therapy and prayers, he regained the lost parts and is a healthy, active 3 year old with very minimal effects of such a horrible injury. He is a miracle and I pray that Owen is a miracle too!

We are all still praying for your whole family. You have been on our hearts and our minds all day long. Your faith is amazing and it will carry you all through. We will be thinking about you tomorrow as they start the process of bringing your little boy back to you.

I just wanted to extend my thoughts and prayers to your family. You are so amazing and strong. I met you at the NICU family Thanksgiving dinner at Waukesha. I just wanted to let you know that I am praying for Owen and your family.

Melissa, I stumbled upon your blog months ago and I am so fascinated by your life, and I so greatly admire your strength. I was devastated to read about Owen and I am praying hard for his recovery. I am sending you all of the positive vibes I can muster! Hang in there – you’ll be in my thoughts.

  20. Hello!

I just wrote to you and I don’t know where my message went so I apologize if you get this twice! It’s twice the prayers!

I learned about Owen from a facebook friend. I just wanted to let you know I’ve been where you are. Hold tight to your faith. It will guide you through the darkness. Be Owen’s Mama like you’ve been. He needs you just as much as he always has. Sing to him. Hold his hand. He’s there. He might be different but he’s all around you.

    Peace be with you,

    Shauna

I also work with Rachel, and I know everyone in our building is thinking of you all and saying prayers for little Owen. Lots of love and lots of positive thoughts coming your way. Prayers can work miracles!

  22. Auntie "O"

We’re all praying for that 2%.

  23. Sue Margelofsky

Mel & Doug – You are in my thoughts, my every prayer. Not only do I pray for Owen’s recovery but I pray for you and Doug. If Owen is as strong as his Mom & Dad, he will come out of this with a smile. (and maybe a little craving for some cheese.) Everyone at work has been praying and will continue to do so. Our hearts go out to you and your family. I am not sure I have any favors to call out to “the big guy” but I will give it a try! I hear he is always up for the challenge to create a miracle. He is eveywhere so know that he is there watching over Owen.
Sleep tight Owen (a.k.a Chunky Monkey). You have a big day ahead of you!

    Hi Bissing Family 🙂
Although we have never met, I have heard of your story, and since have had baby Owen on my mind. I am so sorry your family is having to go through this. I can not imagine what you are going through but the strength your family is showing is amazing. I pray that Owen will be in that 2%, he’s got the best cheerleaders anyone could ask for, and I know GOD is hearing quite a few extra prayers for your family these days 🙂 My family is sending lots of prayers and positive thoughts your way.

my thoughts are with you and your little boy

    Bissing family-
Like so many others here, i do not know your family but heard of your story through a friend on fb. I have thought about your family & your sweet little boy constantly today. I have an almost 18 month old former 32 wker who has had numerous medical challenges in his short life. There is no more helpless feeling than watching your child face a fight that would bring most adults to their knees. I have been praying so hard that your family will be blessed with peace & strength during this time. My heart swelled when i read your update, in this fight every little bit of progress is a HUGE victory! I will be checking back frequently & praying constantly for all of you. You are incredibly strong & i can tell this without even knowing you…Owen is a lucky little boy to have you as his mommy! Take care of him & let everyone on here feed you strength, hope & faith! Fight Owen, FIGHT!

I’m another triplet mom that doesn’t know you but has a heart that aches for you and prays for you and Owen. I pray that your little guy has the life force that will push him through this crisis, and I pray that you feel the love and prayers of all of those that you know, and so many that you don’t.

  28. Liz Oettiker

Mel and Family – I only know of your story through my sister, Mary, a former Kohl’s co-worker. I have been fascinated by your triplets since they were in utero. My family and I are thinking of yours and Owen all the time. We pray that after all that little boy has fought through to be with you that you will bring him home again. He is surrounded with love and support and that is what he needs most right now.
