Owen’s Little Warrior Team for the Briggs & Al Run/Walk – Register NOW!

The Briggs & Al Run/Walk for Children’s Hospital is coming up quick!  This year the walk will be held on September 15th in Milwaukee and there is only 1 month left to register.  A close friend of our family is getting married out-of-town that same day, so I won’t be able to walk this year — BUT can I can a favor?  Will you walk for us?

Last year was so powerful and I was so proud to know that Owen’s memory was helping raise money for Children’s.  The staff helped us so much during our 5 days stay … which honestly felt more like a month.  In fact, Owen’s nurses still stay in touch with my family and even remembered the day he died.  This is one of the only ways I know how to pay at least a little bit back.  Although there is no price to the gifts and comfort we were given.

My very own Mandy Bushke has offered to be the team captain and will walk with you in our place.  The shirts are white again this year and we want to paint the streets OWENGE!  But I need help to do it .. since I can’t be there in person.   The walk is family friendly — bring the kids! Strollers and wagons work great.

Please help to not only help Owen’s memory live on, but to also spread joy to the other families who are being serviced by Children’s Hospital of WI.

Love, Mel

The Magic 8 Ball Knows All

Today started with Jaden riding his brothers like donkeys.  Yep … boys were napping on a blanket on the ground on their tummies.  I came into the room to find Jaden “sitting” on Weston’s back with one hand over his head saying “ride ’em cowboy!”  What did I do?  Ask him to hold that pose so I could grab the camera.  Mother of the year move or what?

This afternoon, Jaden and I took a little walk to the park behind my mom’s house.  We were on the swings and started talking to the other mom and her kids.  She asked me if I had any other kids.  I laughed and said, “yes I do … three of them.”  I got the usual laugh and comment on how she wouldn’t be able to do it.  Then she said, “are you done having kids now?”  I said yes!

Jaden turned around in the swing and said, “No, we’re going to have one more baby and it’s going to be a girl.  I asked the Magic 8 ball at the dentist and it said so.”  WHAT?  He’s asking a Magic 8 ball now for a sister?

Oh Jaden ….

Then we were walking back to mom’s and playing tag.  Tag Jaden you’re it!  I was walking, waiting for him to catch up and out of no where he comes flying from behind me yelling, “I’m running like a pickle!  I’m running like a pickle!”  I have NO idea what that even means, let alone know where he got it from.

He also let me know that there are gray Chinese birds that are very dangerous.  They attack you with the prickly things.  Then he continued to tell me that I had a Chinese bird in my pants.  I did a little crazy dance.  He laughs and says “Oh mom, I got you good!”  Or “ooo weee that was a good one!”

Today was just a funny Jaden day.  Full of randomness and laughs.  Gosh I love that little man!

Love, Mel

PS.  It’s been a while since I posted pictures of the triplets … so here are a few!

Weston – this little man is ALWAYS on the move.  He rolls both ways (back to tummy and over again).  Just last night he started getting his legs all curled under his body … getting ready to crawl!  I’m really going to have my work cut out for me!

Logan – his hair and eyelashes are really light.  (Just like the pictures of Doug when he was little).  I think his eyes are bluish … is that even possible with two brown-eyed parents?  He has proven to be the biggest flirt out of all the babes.  He smiles and coos at ANYTHING who will give him a little attention.

Awww and my Oh-dee (Owen).  He’s sitting on the couch, fingers to his lips, saying “eat your heart out ladies!”  He can roll over from his back to his tummy, but it takes an awful lot for him.  He’s just not that into it  🙂

Bus Stop Move

I got a phone call yesterday …. they freakin’ moved the bus stop due to the construction near our house.  And I’m bitter!  It’s now around the bend in the road and I can’t see the house from the corner.  So I now get to pack up the triplets twice a day … no matter if we have an outing or not.

Forgive the TERRIBLE drawing.  I blurred out the street names.  The green blob is our house.

It’s a significantly longer walk now.  Although the walk seemed a lot longer this morning than the picture shows it.  Perhaps it’s just my bitterness that made the walk longer and colder.

I found myself giving each of the construction workers a sideways glance, as if it’s their fault.  I even tried telling the lady from the bus company “I don’t know what I’m going to do if you move the stop … I’ve got newborn triplets at home.  Now I have to pack them up each morning?”  She wasn’t really sympathetic.  Dropping the “T” word didn’t help this time.

So ladies and gents … I’ve made myself a new pair of big girl pants.  Fresh off the press!

This morning I walked out to the garage, got the big boy stroller and brought it around to the front of the house.  Then when it was just about time to head out, I wrapped each of the babies in a blanket and brought them out one by one.  Then we started the walk … the five of us 🙂  Jaden kept asking “are we there yet?” as if we were traveling hundreds of miles.

We met some new kids in the neighborhood – all a lot older than Jaden.  The kids were all interested in the boys and of course Logan was a little flirt!  Smiling and sticking his tongue out.  The tongue part surprised me – that’s usually Weston!

Moral of the story?  We survived!  Change is just a lot harder now-a-days but not impossible.  Let’s see how the bus pick-up goes this afternoon.  Wish us luck!

3 Month Update

Can you believe these little men came into the world over three months ago?  All three boys are smiling and making “goo” noises.  Their personalities are becoming more and more identifiable too.  Owen is still so very laid back.  He can just lay there and be happy.  But when he cries – oh man does he let it go!  He’s got a deeper cry and the saddest pouty lip.

Weston is still wirey.  You can see his legs kicking all the time and his arms are always moving.  Doug said it was like watching himself talk with his hands. ha!  He was the one that wouldn’t stay tucked in during our valentine’s day photo shoot.

Logan has seemed to chill out  a little since we started the hypoallergenic formula.  He still has his fussy moments but he also has his relaxed days.  He’s the most smiley these days and really loves looking at faces.

All three boys love, love, love their nooks.  I feel like I”m on a constant nook hunt as they also shoot them out of their mouthes quite far.

Jaden is also getting to be a pro at ‘nooking his brothers.’  I don’t want Jaden to resent his brothers, but let’s face it, I need his help sometimes.  So I try to use the phrase “families help each other and right now your brother needs your help – look at how sad he is!”  Jaden is a good sport and helps a lot (usually).

The boys also love to swing.  Logan is mostly in the swing since he usually needs the rocking to calm down.  We’ve got two swings set up in the living room now.  (and with the foam flooring and bouncy seats it’s like the Bissing daycare!)

We went on our first walk yesterday.  The weather was up in the 50’s and mom and I decided it was a time for an adventure.  So off we went – me with the three babies in the baby limo and Mom with Jaden in the wagon.  It felt like we were more of a parade than just on a walk.  What a difference it made doing something and being in the fresh air rather than being cooped up in the house all day.  I have a feeling that when the weather gets nicer we are going to be spending a whole lot of time outside!

Three months down and we are still surviving!  Heck I even enjoy it at times.  But I’m not going to lie – it’s tough, really tough.  And it’s a different kind of hard than I anticipated.  But I’m learning and we are making it thru!  I’ve only just begun to learn what works and what doesn’t.

Love, Mel
